Detailed answers to each question

For All

1. What is this website all about?

This is the resident community portal for the El Dorado Mobile Home Park (MHP) in Sunnyvale, California. It will assist in communication and coordinating community nourishing events to help us get to know our neighbors and support each other to make a safer and more enjoyable living environment.

What it is

  • A place where you can learn about your neighbors that have chosen to participate and find things in common to develop friendships.
  • A focal point for social and safety events and information to allow easy planning, registration, and participation in community events.
What it is and is not
  • This website is not part of the Newport Pacific Management Company that owns and operates El Dorado MHP.
  • This website is not part of the Mobile Home Village online manufactured home marketplace which has a focus of manufactured home sales including those at El Dorado MHP.
  • It is not a site to contact the park mangement about park maintenance or rent administration
  • It is not a social media hub like NextDoor where you can share opinions about anything or complain about other people's behavior.

2. How is the park arranged?

The lot numbering scheme for the park can be very confusing, especially since there are no street signs. There is a site lot number map at the corner bulletin board near the pool. To help understand how the numbering sequence goes, it helps to know that
  • The original entrance to the park was in front of the main office onto Fair Oaks Avenue.
  • The park has had two major phases, the first 200 units and the last 84 units.
  • The first phase unit numbering starts at the clubhouse and numbers counter-clockwise along the Weddell Drive direction towards Sunnyvale around the park perimeter to unit 54 in the back corner. It then winds up and down each street to unit 198 then crosses the street on the pool side of the main office and finishes with 199 and 200 next to unit zero.
  • The main entrance moved to where it is now and the original driveway was converted to a lot whose number is zero.
  • The second or North development begins with lot 201 in the "back" of the park and winds counter-clockwise around the northern perimeter.
  • Numbering sequences go in curb following order, meaning they increase going up one side of a street and continue coming back on the other side of the street instead of odd/even numbering down the street like many city streets so your across-the-street neighbor will have a number different from yours by some number between 10 and 20.

For Former Social Club

1. What about the existing email list?

The traditional social club email list, eldoradosocialclub@googlegroups.com, served as the main electronic communication channel for the social club and other issues. It has been renamed to eldoradomhpneighbors@googlegroups.com to clarify it's use for things appropriate to a neighborhood community beyond just social events (e.g. suspicious activity, reports of mail theft, etc.). It is managed by Noelle and it will continue to be used to communicate to everyone on the list neighborhood relevant information as well as to invite people to enroll in the new community website portal, inform everyone of upcoming events, and invite residents to take online interest surveys hosted on the website.

For Residents

1. Tell me more how the website works

This El Dorado MHP resident portal has two faces, the private or internal face is visible only after successful login by residents and the public face is what anyone can see.

Because this is not an official website of the management company, NorthPoint, or the property owners, there is no access to the official contact information of the residents from the park management so all account information must be voluntarily supplied by the residents. This means that to participate, residents must self register (see faq below). Expect to see more in upcoming newsletters and announcements.

2. Why should I register with this website?

Once you register, you get a login and choose a password and become a member of the community portal. Once you log in you can...
  • See detailed calendar of all community events including planning sessions in case you want to participate in them
  • Upload a headshot photo so people can associate your name and face to make the events easier to develop relationships with neighbors.
  • Sign up for our social events, especially the potlucks and donut mixers.
  • Volunteer to help for a scheduled event, and see who has already volunteered to decide whether your comfort zone prefers joining old freinds or meeting new ones that are already signed up.
  • Update your profile to tune your preferences and specify how much of your contact information is visible to fellow residents.
  • See who has pets to make connections with other neighbors with pets like yours
  • Add your pet (with photo) to help the community identify and get back to you if they find your pet wandering around.
  • See who has volunteered for previous events to be able to contact them for mentoring on what to do to help you feel more comfortable volunteering for an event.

3. How is this different from the NextDoor app/website?

This is different from NextDoor in the following ways:
  • It is only for the residents of the El Dorado park, so we don't have to sift through stuff that does not pertain to us.
  • It is not supported by advertising, so no adds.
  • It is not like a typical social media space where the platform owners want everyone to post a lot to increase advertising revenue opportunities. This means there is not a lot of "noise" about things most of the community does not care about.
  • It is focused on providing information focused on developing relationships and having fun with our neighbors and having a single contact point for information important for the safety and well being of the community.
There is no reason that you can not belong to both communities, and choose how much time you want to spend with each.

4. Is this the same Social Club we used to have?

No. The El Dorado MHP has had a social club for a long time and it has sponsored many events. After the last December social event the social club board of directors announced the retirement of the social club.

Some new community members have expressed an interest in planning and contributing to community events for the new year to help get to know their neighbors. With some of their fresh perspectives and lots of communicating we would like to get anyone involved who wants to support both a fun volunteer team and fun and memorable events this year.

5. Whom do we contact for more info?

Jerry Bowes, (Unit 141), has volunteered to take the point on getting the 2024 events rolling, doing the initial communication, providing interest surveys, and gathering those who want to participate together. He is the author and webmaster of this website and his contact link is at the bottom of every page. You can contact him at jerbowes@gmail.com. You can also make any suggestions or ask any questions on the website via the Feedback Form.

6. How do I register for the Resident Portal / Email List?

Having a website login account is required to
  • See entire event calendar and photos from prior events
  • See the resident (and pet) photo directory
  • Register for social events
  • Register to help out with social events
To self register on the website, meaning you get a login account, contact the webmaster via the link at the bottom or fill out our feedback form. The registration procedure is sometimes included on some of the posters that are distributed with the monthly newsletter.
